  1. Looks like micropayments/virtual goods are making headway finally in the US:

Micropayments in other countries like Korea, have been hugely successful in the past ten years with cyworld’s virtual currency(dotori) that is used to purchase virtual goods, music, personalization items…etc:

  2. An interesting talk on the subject by Douglas Rushkoff at Web 2.0…

  3. If you can get someone to ‘fall in love’ with their online representation then you can charge them money to embellish that identity.

If you can create a community where people care how they look to each other, then you can sell them gifts that they can pick out for their friends.

If you offer people more control and validation than they enjoy in their real lives then they will identify more with their online self, and invest time and resources in that self.

The problem is not how to monetize social media, it’s how mankind will resist it’s seductions as the medium matures.

  4. Monetizing websites, blogs, etc is a good way to earn some passive income.`’,

  5. monetizing a website is really a great way to earn money in a passive way just like real estate.:”:
